Research Interests

Dr. Jackson Njau is an associate professor of paleoanthropology and taphonomy in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Indiana University. His work focuses on fossils of ancient fauna including human ancestors (hominids) and stone artifacts that were made and used by early humans. He teaches students how to identify stone tools and demonstrates how these basic implements were crucial for the development of human technology, diet and social behavior. Additionally, he teaches how to identify fossil material, type of taxa and understand how the animal died, and how the remains survived biological and physical forces of destructions from the time of death to burial to discovery.
